Most other tools like this cost more (usually $200+), can only read one of the three major protocols, and have to be plugged into a computer to work. This gadget can use all three making it work on any car manufactured 1996 or later.

It would be really cool to figure out the communication protocols and make a computer interface myself but that hardly seems like it’d ever make it to the top of “Dave’s list of things he’d do if he had any extra time.”

Today I noticed their tropical weather section, and found that it has some cool stuff.

For each of this year’s storms, they have a bunch of different maps. I find the computer models and strike probability maps especially cool.

I sure am glad that where I live there’s no hurricanes, floods or earthquakes. All we have to deal with living close to Lake Erie is the infrequent tornado… Oh yeah, and lake-effect snow.
