Thanks to Joshua Zader for his excellent instructions for importing form MovableType to WordPress while preserving the post IDs.

All that’s left to do is some mod_rewrite trickeration so the old URLs map to the new locations and we’re all set!

Megan and I have been back at our apartment for almost two weeks now. I’ve worked every day since I’ve been back and am also working the next three days. In the little spare time I’ve had, I’ve been preparing to move tylerdave.com to the new dedicated server that I share with TB and Warren. All of the major stuff is done so I should be switching in the next couple days.

At work I was offered to be trained as a bertender so now I’ll be a bartender as well as a server which I think is pretty cool. I’m still looking around for other work but for now at least I’m having fun and making enough money that I can hold out for a job I’ll actually like.

Megan’s father died suddenly of a heart attack late Sunday night. Megan found out early Monday morning. She searched online a flight for that afternoon from Baltimore to Cleveland, and left for the airport almost immediately. I had to work on Monday and Tuesday morning, but I was able to find people to cover my shifts for the rest of the week. I drove to Cleveland and got in around 4:45am on Wednesday. There were viewings today and the funeral services will be in the morning on Thursday.

I didn’t get a chance to know him as well as I would have liked, but I’m glad I talked with him as much as I did. He was very proud of all of his children and more than anything else, he wanted them to be doing things that made them happy. I’d like to think that some of his outlook on life rubbed off on me.

Please take this opportunity to tell the people you care about that you love them. Kerry Patrick Kimbrell, you will be missed.

From the Thursday, Feb 18 Cleveland Plain Dealer:

KERRY P. KIMBRELL, age 55, beloved father of Ian (Darleen), Kerry-Ann, Aaron, Sinead and Megan, dearest brother of Jeff, Alden, Robert and Randy (both deceased), beloved son of Robert (deceased) and Marie. Funeral services Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at CRACIUN BERRY FUNERAL HOME, 7200 DETROIT AVE. where friends may call 2-4 AND 7-9 P.M. WEDNESDAY. Burial Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery

On my way to the store today, I put gas in my car for the first time since returning from Cleveland on Christmas night. That’s just under a month of driving to and from work (and the bowling alley) on one tank of gas. When I was working in Cleveland, I was filling-up two to three times a week. I’m saving around $100/month on fuel alone.

It’s been a while but I guess I haven’t really had much to say. I’ve been working at Chili’s now since my last post, and I’m having fun there. I’m making more per hour than at my last job but I’m currently only working about 30 hours a week. Hopefully I’ll be able to increase my hours soon.

In between work I’ve been playing the second expansion pack of Neverwinter Nights and reading a little. I also started working on the post office photo site again recently. Hopefully it will be ready to go public soon.

Pete and Katie (a.k.a. Kate and Petie or just Kete) visited over the weekend. It gave us a great excuse to break out the new s’more maker. It was cool having them around and it has seemed quiet here now since they’ve left.

We left Cleveland around 2:30 last Monday. Because I hadn’t slept the night before the move, I was really dragging on the drive here. I had to make six stops for coffee, pop, and food. Somewhere along the way I came to the realization that I wasn’t driving away to somewhere, I was actually driving home. Once that sunk in, the rest of the drive was pretty easy. We arrived at our new place around 10:30. TB was waiting for us with the keys (and dinner) but he had to leave shortly after that. By the time I finally went to sleep I had been awake for 40 hours straight. I would not suggest driving the PA turnpike without sleep. I plan to never do that again.

Our movers arrived Tuesday morning and had everything unloaded by about 1:00pm. We got lunch and visited the huge Target across the street.

On Wednesday we got the cable internet activated but then had problems with one of the cable boxes. We started to unpack a lot of stuff but didn’t get vary far. In the evening we took a drive to Widener to see what Megan’s drive to school will be like. After that, we went to our local Borders and then to Super-G, where we got new Bonus Cards. I found it unusual that the store didn’t sell beer. Later in the evening we found that grocery stores don’t sell beer in Delaware. TB said that he remembered finding it unusual that grocery stores did sell beer in Ohio. Oh well. Later that night we searched online for a car for Megan.

On Thursday, TB came back with some more stuff and we drove with him to his mom’s work to swap vehicles. Along the way we took pictures of a few post offices. Megan made calls to auto insurance places and car dealerships while we were out.

On Friday we drove around to a whole bunch of different stores to get some rendom things for the apartment and just to see what is in the area. We went to Genuardi’s and got a Club Card. We’re going to go to all of the different grocery stores a few times before we decide which one we like best. Megan looked around some more online and found a couple cars that she was interested in. She also talked to someone at a dealership that had a car that seemed to fit all of her requirements, so she made an apointment to test drive it on Saturday.

We woke up a little later than we would have liked on Saturday and went to the the car dealership to check out the car. It’s a 1995 Saturn SL2 with 62000 miles. It was in really good shape and seemed to run very well. Megan put a deposit on it and is going to pick it up next Saturday. I’ll have details about the car later.

After we got home we hung out for a little while and then went to a bunch of different stores, looking for random things and just trying to waste some time.

Tomorrow (later today), I’m going to get up, pack some things and drive back to Cleveland with Megan. I’m going to be working at my old job for another few weeks until I find something in the area, and I have my replacement trained. I really wish I didn’t have to go back to Cleveland but it’s all about the money right now. Hopefully a cool job in the Philly area will appear soon.

Anyway, I’m really loving our new place and can’t wait until I’m able to actually stay here full time.
