While I was searching around
Amazon for a couple books that I want, I noticed that you can now
pick some items up at Borders locations. The cool thing about this is that for most items, the pick-up price is the same as the Amazon price (plus sales tax). I think I’m definitely going to take advantage of this.
Ironically, soon enough people will be able to pre-order items from Amazon to be picked up at Borders from within the Borders store thanks to a deal between T-Mobile and Borders to offer wireless internet access at all Borders locations nationwide.
The press release was a little unclear if this would be free to all Borderes customers or only for “T-Mobile HotSpot Customers.” Either way, I hope we don’t see any more of this (Related Slashdot story is here, the article in Oregon Live seems to no longer be accessible).
Yeah, three of the local independent coffee shops near campus here have teamed up to offer wireless access for something like $10/month (and that’s not including Starbucks, which must make the above sum look like a real bargain). I don’t think many people pay for it, either, considering that campus buildings with free access points are a couple blocks away.
I’m down with in-store pickup, though.
